  • The specimens from Home Science Tools are awesome! A group of 5-6 scholars in the summer DECATS program enjoyed dissecting the perch. Two of the perch had little fish inside of the stomach. That was exciting!
    Some were smaller than 7"

  • I ordered 15 of these for a Biology class that I teach. Some of the specimens were a bit small and a few were a touch dry.

      Perch, medium 7-9", plain

This medium plain preserved grey perch specimen has a length of 7"-9". This provides adequate size to locate internal organs and external structures at an economy cost for fish dissections. Species is typically Pomadayses magranthus. Occasionally we substitute yellow perch, Perca flavescens, based on supply availability.

10+ pricing is based on bulk-packed specimens. When necessary, you will receive a combination of 10-packs and individually packed specimens to fill your order.

Note: Specimens are initially preserved with a formaldehyde solution, the best animal tissue fixative. The formaldehyde is then displaced first with water and finally with a glycol solution to produce a moist, low-fume specimen which will not decay over time. Plan to use specimens within one year of purchase to ensure the best tissue quality. Specimen discoloration and dryness over time is normal and does not indicate decay.

Store your specimens at normal room temperature—refrigeration is not required. Storage in attics or garages at high temperatures will damage the specimens. Once opened, specimens can be resealed in a zip-lock bag to prevent them from drying out for later use.

Shipping Note: This item contains preserved specimens and only ships to a street address in the 50 US states.
