DESCRIPTION
Arrange chemical elements by their electrode potential in this AP Chemistry: Electrochemical Series Kit.
Metal strips (electrodes) placed in water tend to go into solution as ions, while electrons simultaneously build up on them. The electrical potential difference produced between the metal and solution is the electrode potential (Eº). Oxidation is loss; reduction is gain. By definition, an electrode potential is a reduction potential.
Elements that gain electrons from their solution are electronegative. Elements that gain electrons from their solution are electropositive. The most negative E° values are at the top of the electrochemical series and the most positive E° values are at the bottom.
The AP Chemsitry: Eletrochemical Series Kit from Innovating Science has enough material for 5 groups. Teacher’s Manual and Student Study Guide copymasters are included.
You provide 5 large flasks, 50 ml beakers, voltmeter with alligator clips, distilled water, and safety equipment.
