DESCRIPTION
This kit demonstrates how an electromagnet works and includes experiment ideas, as well as information on the history of electromagnets and details about the science behind electricity and electromagnetism. This electromagnet is made of coated copper wire wrapped around a U-shaped metal core. When connected to a battery, the electromagnet will produce a magnetic field that attracts ferromagnetic material like iron or steel.
To perform the experiments in the instruction manual you will need a 6-volt battery, connecting wire, iron filings, and metal objects like straight pins, tacks, steel paper clips, etc. The electromagnet is 5" wide at its widest point, and 5.25" tall from the bottom of one coil to the top of the hook. A metal keeper with a hook is included to perform lifting experiments.
