Discover the power of the sun with this Thames & Kosmos Solar Mechanics Experiment Kit!

Build a racecar, excavator, solar fan, helicopter, windmill, waterwheel, and much more as you explore the power of the sun (also known as solar power). The unique single-piece solar motor inside, made of an electric motor and a photovoltaic cell combined, can be used to power dozens of electric vehicles!

This hands-on Thames and Komos Solar Mechanics Kit:

  • demonstrates how solar cells convert energy from the sun (solar energy) into electricity (mechanical energy)
  • explains how gears work
  • describes what a driver gear is
  • teaches curious minds about energy, torque, and transmission
  • allows students to explore how different placement angles, different sources of light, different light levels, and other factors can impact how a solar cell works and operates

The full-color experiment manual offers step-by-step instructions for building over 20 different models that use a solar cell and motor. Inside the experiment manual, you'll also find information on how solar cells work, a history of solar cell technology, and pictures of real life solar vehicles.

Use this Thames and Kosmos Solar Mechanics robot kit to conduct experiments with a solar cell - either outside or inside using a fluorescent or incandescent bulb. This solar mechanics construction kit is an excellent STEM toy that includes over 50 building pieces for a wide variety of DIY building projects. You may need to provide a few additional items to complete some of the experiments, such as a desk lamp or sunlight.
