Learn about renewable energy, wind power, and electronics with this wind turbine science project kit from Thames and Kosmos! With the parts inside, kids can build a wind turbine and conduct a variety of experiments that explore wind as an energy source; use it for a school project, for supplemental home learning, or just for fun!

*Looking for the most updated version of this windmill generator kit?  We also carry the Thames & Kosmos Wind Power 4.0 kit - released in the summer of 2020*

With this Thames & Kosmos Wind Power 2.0 Science Kit, kids ages 8 and up will:

  • build an electricity-generating wind turbine and gearbox;
  • experiment with rotor turbine blade design, gear ratio & wind speed;
  • discover how wind turbines can be sources of energy as they use theirs to store energy as electrical power in a rechargeable battery;
  •  build working models, like a glider and race car, and power them with the stored battery power;
  • and more!

The included 36-page, full-color instruction manual:

  • Gives step-by-step instructions for building the wind turbine & 8 different battery-run models
  • Explains wind energy and how it can be stored and used to produce electricity and run electronic devices - no electric motor needed!
  • Includes references & tips for parents & teachers; here's one example from the manual:
    • "When measuring the correlation between wind speeds and power generation (the brightness of the LED), it is difficult to concretely quantify the result and turn it into numerical data with only the bright- ness of the LED. In order to more accurately record the experimental results, a multimeter is recom- mended for measuring voltage changes (DC-V)."

All you need to provide is one rechargeable AA battery. If you'd like, you can also use the 133 included parts inside this wind turbine science project kit to conduct your own DIY science experiments. Who know exploring wind generators and renewable energy could be so much fun!

Wind Power 2.0 Kit
