Water gel beads (also called water gel marbles, or water crystals) are the new rage to hit both the home decorating and educational science markets. These tiny super absorbent polymer spheres are able to absorb up to 400 times their weight in water to form gel-like marbles. Just add water: mix 1 teaspoon (4 g) of these small 2.5-3 mm crystals to a quart of water, let it sit overnight, pour off the excess liquid, and you'll have over 2 cups of fascinating 10-15 mm gel marbles.
With this pack, you get 10 grams of clear water gel beads which is enough to make about a quart of fully hydrated water gel marbles.
Besides being able to roll and bounce, these water crystal beads are nearly invisible in a glass of water and add beauty to a vase of cut flowers while helping to keep them fresh. By adding food coloring to the water, you can even change the color of your gel marbles! They also make a great addition to DIY slime projects.
These are a co-polymer of sodium acrylic acid and acrylamide. They go by many names, including crystal soil, water gel beads, flower gel, magic water beads, and crystal balls. It is non-toxic material but should be handled carefully as with all chemicals. Use water crystal beads carefully once they are mixed with water as they are extremely slippery. For best results use distilled water.
Start your science project today! Use water gel marbles in gardening, flower arrangements, slime making, sensory play, or many other activities.
