DESCRIPTION
A traditional alcohol lamp with a 120 ml glass tank, a nickel-plated metal cap, an aluminum snuffer cap/cover, and a fiber wick!
Alcohol lamps are used in a science lab for heating, combustion, and sterilization. This alcohol lamp burns ethyl alcohol (not included), which can be purchased in 30 ml bottles from HST and are also readily available and inexpensive at hardware stores - just look in the paint section for denatured alcohol, ethanol, or ethyl hydrate.
Note: For best results, we recommend you use fuel with an alcohol content of 90% or higher - this could include an isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol).
The fiber wick is adjustable and should protrude about 3/8” from the top of the metal cap/wick holder. Need some extra wicks for all of your science experimenting and DIY projects? Order replacement wicks ahead of time from HST!
The snuffer cap acts as a stopper for the open flame, but it's not tight fitting and will not prevent evaporation of alcohol if stored in the lamp between uses.
Please note that a hazard exists whenever working around an open flame. Due to this, you should always keep an operable fire extinguisher accessible when using the open flame on this alcohol lamp. For safety purposes, and to equip yourself to use this alcohol lamp properly, read the 'Alcohol Lamp Operating Instructions' below for more safety precautions and other helpful information.
