Warm and Bright

Keeping it all inside, or ready to let it out? This chemistry kit introduces thermal energy to your student, including how it works at the particle level. Exploding balloons and creating a drink insulator are just a couple of the exciting experiments your student will partake in while exploring thermal energy.

Warm and Bright comes with a full-color Student Workbook and a Teacher Guide. It is a phenomenon-based approach, designed to fully engage students in the science of thermal energy. Through a series of experiments, students will test and build devices to better understand the relationship between thermal energy and matter.

As part of a special program from Home Science Tools, this Accelerate level kit will provide over 9 hours of engaging instruction, helping your student gain knowledge and confidence while doing real science.

In this kit, the student will engage in these fun activities:

1. Keep a balloon from popping with water.
2. Test different materials to see which will transfer thermal energy.
3. Design and build a drink insulator.
4. Use food coloring to understand how thermal energy works at the particle level.

Use the Warm and Bright kit to answer questions such as:

• What is thermal energy?
• What happens to energy?
• How is thermal energy useful?
• How can I maximize or minimize thermal energy for a purpose?

Our Warm and Bright kit is a part of the Science Unlocked Accelerate series and is recommended for grades 3-7. Prior to completing Warm and Bright, we recommend the prerequisite kits Hot and Cold, The Sun Blocker, and That's a Sound Idea.

You will also need:

• Scissors
• Stopwatch or digital stopwatch app
• Water
• Way to boil water

• MS-PS3-4: Plan an investigation to determine the relationships among the energy transferred, the type of matter, the mass, and the change in the average kinetic energy of the particles as measured by the temperature of the sample.
