DESCRIPTION

This kit is designed to teach kids about an oil spill and let them investigate cleanup methods. It includes the materials you'll need (except for water) plus full instructions for doing six different science projects. Learn about the polarity of water, use feathers and sponges to study the effects of crude oil on animal life and the environment, and try out real techniques that are used to clean up an oil spill (such as absorption and dispersion). Includes ideas for science fair projects.

More About This Kit

Large oil spills have a costly and lasting environmental impact. The 2010 Gulf oil spill received tremendous news attention, as it should. That high awareness creates a unique opportunity to teach kids about oil spills and their impact. This kit has everything needed to get your kids experimenting first-hand with the science of oils spills, their impact on the environment, and the difficulty in cleaning them up. With kids taking turns, there are enough lab materials in the kit for a whole classroom to try their hand at containing a spill with a mini containment boom, plus trying to disperse or absorb the oil.
