DESCRIPTION
These irradiated radish seeds have been exposed to a Cobalt-60 source to demonstrate the effects of varying degrees of radiation on plant growth. You get five packets of seeds with at least 50 seeds per packet. One packet is untreated for control purposes, demonstrating normal plant growth. The other four packets are each exposed to different levels of radiation: 50,000 rads, 150,000 rads, 500,000 rads, and 4,000,000 rads.
Plant health changes brought on by irradiation are often clearly visible a short time after germination begins.
Science Fair Project Ideas:
- Does sunlight vs. natural light have an effect on how the seeds grow?
- What are the best growing conditions for the control seeds? Experiment with soil types, how much to water, sunlight, etc.
